Is the Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed Right for You and Your Dog?

As dog owners we want our best fur buddies to be comfortable. While there are tons of options for dog beds and cots, one of the most popular is the Coolaroo brand elevated bed. Here are a few thoughts to help you decide if one of these is possibly and option for your household companion.

Materials: The bed is constructed of a coated round steel frame with screws and washers included. The “fabric” is actually HDPE (synthetic fiber) and the fabric is stretched a bit to fit during assembly. The fabric can be sprayed down, cleaned, scrubbed and does not hold onto much odor even with potential “accidents” or mud/dirt getting tracked onto it.

Assembly: Upon unboxing, owners will be asked to assemble everything with some relatively simple screws, washers, and an (included) tension tool. While the frame does shift and twist a bit during the process, it all settles and stabilizes once the ground. The assembly process is likely to take 10-15 minutes.

Why an elevated bed you may ask? Being off the ground allows for some nice cool air flow underneath and in summer that is a big advantage for those who have no choice about wearing fur coats. The fabric also has a bit of give making the bed a bit more comfortable as compared to one sitting on hard ground. Combine that with easy to clean fabric and a modest price point this is a winner in our book. In fact, we use some of them at our training locations for Obedience work.
